haunted hotel

For only $224 a night, you can be scared to death to sleep in case you meet some of the  ghosts who inhibit the Hotel Monteleone in the French Quarter.  Established in 1886 and added to several times, the hotel is still operated by the fifth generation descendents of a Sicilian shoe cobbler.

tulip magnolia

It may be snowy and 18 degrees in Lubbock, but here in New Orleans the tulip magnolias and azaleas are blooming. Of course, I probably won't make it home tomorrow because of flight cancellations.

night lights

Built in 1893, New Orleans’ first skyscraper is located on the corner of Carondelet and Common Streets, one block off Canal.  Originally the Hennen Building by architect Thomas Sully, it is now apartments.  A one-bedroom, 600 square feet and no parking, is $1150 a month -- but you're only a few blocks from Bourbon Street! This is the view from my room at the Pere Marquette.
