Qhen built in 1890, the 2,376 feet Walnut Street Bridge over the Tennessee River connected downtown Chattanooga with the north bank. .  The Walnut Street Bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places on February 23, 1990. Now a pedestrian bridge, the structure is part of the historic arts district.
