leader of the pack

This month's issue of Popular Photography had a black-and-white photo of a gorilla.  That prompted me to look at my gorilla images.  Nothing jumped out from the Kansas City zoo but I found a possibility from the Albuquerque Bio-Park.  The conversion of this color image made an interesting photo.  I like the suspicious look and that the backlighting underscores the "silverback" of the gorilla.

name that flower

If you said "artichoke" you win the horticultural prize.  The artichoke is actually a thistle with an edible bud.

get your kicks on route 66

There are still glimpses of the past glamour of road travel on Route 66 to be found on Central Avenue.  The motels of the 1940s and 50s are being razed, although the signs remain - a good historic decision.  The neon sign at the El Don is one of eight in Albuquerque on the New Mexico Register of Cultural Properties.  You can still stay there - close to Old Town -- and they advertise cheap daily and weekly rates.

"found in a desert land"

Moses died in the desert before finding the Promised Land.  Junior provides guidance in arid Albuquerque.  Why use regular exterior paint when the wall of your business can display religious messages?

chirologist

Chiromancy is the practice of "reading" the palm of a person's hand to determine the future. Can you guess which one is the palm reader?
