Although azaleas don't grow in our part of Texas, it's still a popular street name, especially in country cemeteries.  You'll find Azalea next to Edelweiss.

I didn't see any major league scouts at this evening's A's vs. Royals game at the Idalou Sticker Patch.  I suppose the 4-year old TBall talent is still raw. Great-nephew William probably won't even be drafted into the peewee league.  Baseball isn't really his thing -- he prefers right field over left because it puts him closer to the John Deere sign on the fence.  At his infield position he pays more attention to the rocks and bugs than the action on the field.

Deer are not a common sight around here -- although they have been more frequently seen in recent years as the drought brings them from the rough country.  So it was surprising to catch a glimpse of this deer as I sped along FM 1729 and had to make the "photo op U-turn."  Turned out to be a "pet deer" at Harmon Farms in Idalou. She watches the world go by, wearing her straw hat.  Just another example of "farm art."

Even in country cemeteries, simple graveside services have evolved as chapels are built for the comfort of the mourners.  This memorial chapel was erected in 2005 at the Idalou Cemetery.  Begun in 1921 with the donation of two acres for the burial of a family member, the Idalou Cemetery received a Texas Historic Cemetery designation in 2002.  A cemetery is eligible for designation if it is at least 50 years old and is deemed worthy of recognition for its historical associations. The very nature of a cemetery being a landmark of a family’s or community’s presence is considered to validate the criteria of historical associations.  While 93 years may not seem "historic" in some part, on the plains and in Idalou, the cemetery and its gravestones record the passage of time.
