A stylized Statue of Liberty between two television sets adorns the wall at Tom's Daiquiri.  Crisp December nights are not conducive to patio sitting.

barrels - no beer

 

The top two products of Lynchburg, Tennessee are whiskey and barbecue.  The BBQ Caboose on the square was cute with barrel tables but I ventured down the side street to  Barrelhouse BBQ for my "grilled cheese on crack" sandwich, consisting of pulled pork, pepperjack cheese and habanero sauce (optional for me!).  Instead of the usual beer, I had the customary sweet tea.  Did I mention Lynchburg is a dry town?  Barrelhouse BBQ is famous for the TV appearance of owner Chuck Baker on BBQ Pitmasters.  I regret not having the Jack Daniel's bundt cake with Jack Daniels icing -- in a dry town!

Leiper’s Fork is the only historic village on the Tennessee portion of the Natchez Trace Parkway and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The green rolling hills invite you to sit and relax.  Besides, there's not much else to do -- one grocery store with two gas pumps, one café, a few shops and one church.

These chairs were lined up, as if for inspection, and awaiting new homes.  The owner told me they were a little charred and smoky -- having come out of a welding shop.  Not only did he offer to give them to me -- he was willing to deliver as well!  After we visited the gallery across the street, I think the guy was sitting in one of these chairs, moved curbside, to observe the comings and goings of the First Friday Art Trail traffic.

Since I was last through Seagraves, the historic Simpson Inn has added an Ale House.  The original hotel was built in 1917 and named the Hotel Texan.  It was later purchased by Emma Simpson and renamed.  The building survived the fire of 1928 and it now re-establishing itself as a destination hotel.  Enjoy a variety of sitting choices outside the hotel while observing the police station across the street.  Book your Valentine retreat in the Wild West Room or the Victorian Seaside Retreat Room.  Drink lots of craft beer or cask ale in the Ale House (there's not much else to do in Seagraves!)

By September, the swim beach at the lake is deserted--most of the tourists are back to usual routines.  Had it not been 97 degrees I might have lolled in the chair and watched the waves.  As it was, I only ventured from the air-conditioned car to take a few pictures.
