For only $224 a night, you can be scared to death to sleep in case you meet some of the  ghosts who inhibit the Hotel Monteleone in the French Quarter.  Established in 1886 and added to several times, the hotel is still operated by the fifth generation descendents of a Sicilian shoe cobbler.

Roaring Springs is not a big tourist destination.  If you are headed there (and one must go to, not through Roaring Springs, unless you are on TX 70 between Dickens and Matador) and you are not a member of the Ranch Club, then the Travelers Inn Bed & Breakfast is your only option.

In my opinion, the hotel is the most interesting building in Quitaque.  My online surfing turned up the same sentence on about 7 websites:  " In 1907 the Twilla Hotel, a local landmark, opened."  Nothing about when it closed or if Earl Twilla were the builder -- nothing!  The two-story building appears to have had 24 rooms, with a central bath on each hall (if you interpret the windows).  If you peek through the broken window to what may have been the reception room, you'll see the mailboxes and desk.

The Majestic Bath House and Resort Spa is one the faded grand dames of Hot Springs.  Its history from construction in the 1800s to closure in 2006 covers the spas, baseball celebrities, gangsters and gambling.  Photographers who like old and abandoned buildings will be envious of Walter Arnold who had legal access and a key to the door to photograph the hotel and its demise. (We even had the same thought of shooting the facade through the awning struts.)
